Application of new regulation of Wood Packaging Materials

According to the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM No. 15), the General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine of the P. R. China (AQSIQ) together with relevant authorities jointly published the Notice No. 11 and No. 32 in early 2005 and laid down a new rule on wood packaging material (WPM) with imported consignments. The new rule requires all WPM associated with consignments to China should be treated with measures approved by the AQSIO, and labeled with IPPC mark by manufactures certified by plant quarantine authorities of exporting countries or regions. China Inspection and Quarantine (CIQ) authorities will inspect the WPM at the port of entry, any non-compliance WPM will be treated, destroyed or returned to exporting countries or regions. The rule will come effective from 1 January, 2006.

For consignments to be released smoothly on their arrival at the port of China, please notify overseas suppliers to meet the new requirements of WPM. The said rule is available from the website of AQSIQ (www.aqsia.gov.cn), please contact local CIQ for further inquiries.
